Marimba

Anyone interested in signing up for a Marimba AG in the 2024-2025 school year must email a video indicating interest to Mr. Haaks at [email protected] by May 30, 2024.

The video should demonstrate the student's basic ability to play an instrument (recorder, piano, etc.) by playing a short song of their choice (30 seconds will be sufficient). It should also include the child stating their name and reason for wanting to join or continue in the Marimba AG.

The Marimba groups are inviting students to discover their love for music, for playing in an ensemble and to realize, every single person has his/her own unique voice and place in the world of music. Marimbas and Zimbabwe Marimba styles are offering a relative easy and quick access to all major aspects of music: rhythm, harmony, melody, ensemble playing, soloing, ear-training, general musicianship, etc.

Being community oriented, this music allows even the beginning student to gain rich, colorful and valuable musical experiences. The reporter of our groups includes traditional, Zimbabwean "Ur-texte", pieces taught  at "Kwanangoma College", the leading Music College of Zimbabwe, and written by Aport Mhlanga, the Grandfather of this music, simple African folk songs, Ghanaian and Cuban percussion arrangements, Marimba pieces by American composers, American Pop songs and Cuban Latin Jazz.
